Blue Springs at Clearwater (Crescent Lake East)

Blue Springs Drive

When a severe storm in April 2014 caused significant damage to public infrastructure and private properties in the Blue Springs and Crescent Lake area in Marcus Pointe, federal emergency funding through FEMA and NRCS covered immediate repairs to the Crescent Lake Dam, Blue Springs Avenue and outfall pipes. Thanks to the Local Option Sales Tax, it was possible to address what those dollars couldn't: the underlying drainage deficiencies that made the area vulnerable in the first place.

The penny supported the resulting stormwater improvement project, completed in February 2021, which included:

  • Expanded stormwater pond capacity along Glass Drive and Blue Springs Drive to reduce upstream flooding

  • New drainage pipe installation along Sun Valley Drive

  • Stormwater attenuation and treatment improvements for the basin contributing to Blue Springs Avenue

The project was designed to protect the neighborhood from future flooding events, reducing the kind of damage that leaves private property and infrastructure vulnerable after major storms.
