“A Thousand Percent Thumbs Up”

Rolling Hills Resident Loves How the Penny Impacted His Neighborhood and Wants Everyone to Understand How it Works

Christopher Barganier is a Rolling Hills resident and contractor who has seen firsthand the positive impact of Escambia County's voter-approved 1 cent Local Option Sales Tax.

Recent sidewalk improvements in Rolling Hills, paid for by L.O.S.T., have made him an avid supporter.

"The sidewalk improvements have been a real, real, really big beneficial effect that helps keep people out of the streets when walking the neighborhood, walking to the store or the park," says Barganier. "They've helped improve the aesthetic of the neighborhood. And they get a thousand percent thumbs up from everyone who lives out here."

Despite his enthusiasm, Barganier is like many Escambia and Pensacola residents: they've heard of the Local Option Sales Tax but have little understanding on how it actually works and how the revenues are divided up among the city and county.

"I'm not really too familiar about how it works," says Barganier. "I mean I know how it works, but not for funding projects or anything like that."

To explain in detail how the 1 cent sales tax works, who benefits, and what the revenues can and can't be spent on, a citizen-backed campaign called "PennyforPensacola" has launched a website to help citizens get a full understanding.

The website address is: www.pennyforpensacola.com.
